Young pedestrian hospitalized after crash near Santa Rosa Elementary

A young pedestrian was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle tonight. 

The collision occurred around 6:25 p.m. near the intersection of Smith-Enke Road and Santa Rosa Drive, near Santa Rosa Elementary School.  

Police said a girl was struck by a vehicle and sent to a local hospital “conscious and breathing,” according to a spokesperson for Maricopa Police Department. The girl’s age and state of her condition are unknown.  

Roadway restrictions are in place in the area, but the roadway remains open to traffic. 

Police said impairment may have contributed to the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
