Nighttime commuters should prepare for restrictions on North John Wayne Parkway near northern city limits as crews do “final striping work” to conclude agonizing months-long efforts to add a lane to the road there. 

Arizona Department of Transportation crews will intermittently restrict North John Wayne Parkway to one lane in both directions, between Smith-Enke Road and Lakeview Drive/Cobblestone Farms Drive. They will work from 9 p.m. May 21 until 7 a.m. May 22. 

At least one lane will always be open to traffic, according to an ADOT statement.  

“The project team will prioritize the northbound work in order to lift restrictions in time for commuting traffic on Wednesday morning,” the statement read. 

ADOT reminds drivers to slow down and use caution driving through the work zone.
