Got an idea for a mural, performance or arts event? The City of Maricopa may be willing to help foot the bill.
A new round of arts grant funding opens May 4, with increased award amounts aimed at bringing more creative projects to the community, according to a news release.
Applications for the city’s “Celebration of the Arts” grant program will be accepted through May 31. The program includes two funding tracks supporting both individual artists and nonprofit organizations.
The “Vibrant City” grant offers up to $3,000 for artists, collectives and groups planning performances, workshops or other creative projects in public spaces. The “Support the Community” grant provides up to $5,000 for Maricopa-based nonprofits offering arts and cultural programming. This grant requires a matching contribution from the awardee towards the overall budget.
The amounts are nearly double what the city offered last year — $1,500 for the “Vibrant City” grant and $3,000 for the “Support the Community” grant. Past grant cycles have supported everything from live performances to festivals and pop-up events, all designed to bring residents together through the arts, according to the release.
Although applications aren’t due yet, prospective applicants are encouraged to begin preparing project plans, budgets and supporting materials now. For more information or to apply, visit the city website.

Arts and crafts festivals are always fun when weather permits. Why isn’t the city organizing them during fall/spring time?
