A Maricopa middle school is aiming to make history this week, pairing a brand-new community festival with an official Guinness World Records attempt.
Desert Wind Middle School will host its first Spring Fling Festival on Friday, featuring food, games, music and bounce houses, along with a coordinated effort to break multiple records tied to participation and high fives.
Organizers are targeting at least 375 participants, with a goal of reaching 400, for what they describe as an attempt at the most high fives completed in one minute at a middle school festival. A second mark would track the most siblings attending and high fiving at a middle school event, timed to coincide with National Sibling Day.
The event, sponsored by TigerPTO, runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on campus at 35565 W. Honeycutt Road in Tortosa.
Festival attractions include a live DJ, cookout-style food, bounce houses and games designed for all ages, according to event materials.
Admission is priced at $3 per child or student, $5 per adult, $15 for a family of four and $20 for families of five or more. Hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken sandwich combos will be available for $6-$10.
Organizers are encouraging residents to bring friends, family and neighbors in hopes of hitting participation thresholds and turning the evening into a record-setting moment.
