A Maricopa-area lawmaker led the Arizona House of Representatives on Thursday in honoring the life and legacy of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, authoring a legislative proclamation that was read on the House floor as part of a formal recognition ceremony.
The proclamation, sponsored by Reps. Teresa Martinez, whose district includes Maricopa, and Matt Gress, was presented during a House session. Kirk’s widow, Erika, delivered the opening prayer.
The measure recognized Kirk’s “contributions to civic education and public engagement” and was issued ahead of National Freedom Day on Feb. 1. It called on Arizonans to honor his work promoting constitutional principles and participation in public life.
“Charlie believed deeply in this country and in what it stands for,” the proclamation stated. “His work expanded opportunities for young people to engage thoughtfully in public life and reinforced the principle that freedom must be renewed by each generation.”
After the proclamation was read aloud, Martinez offered personal remarks to Kirk’s widow.
“For those who knew Charlie, you know the vast void that is left,” Martinez said. “I ask that all the love we want to give to Charlie be shown to his beautiful wife and family.”
Gress also addressed Erika Kirk, praising her husband’s influence on civic participation.
“Citizenship is not a skill to be learned, but a muscle to be exercised,” Gress said. “And Charlie Kirk was one of our best personal trainers in civic responsibility in our generation.”
On behalf of the Arizona House of Representatives, lawmakers presented Erika Kirk with a framed Arizona state flag that had been flown over the Capitol in her husband’s honor, along with a signed copy of the proclamation.
Kirk was known nationally as one of the founders of Turning Point USA, a conservative activism group that was involved in get out the vote efforts among young voters. Erika Kirk, the new face of TPUSA, read a verse from the Bible and led the chamber in a prayer.
House Republicans released a video of the proclamation here.

And then they all cheered when they counted up merchandise $ales. Such an odd group of people.
Agreed, what’s the deal with martyring Charlie for any reason other than monetizing things? Im not much of a religious type, but this whole thing seems to be exactly what Isiah 29:13 and Matthew 15:7-9 are talking about.
You see, there are many christians, and just generally religious people, who don’t actually follow what their stuff says. You know the classic “love thy neighbor,” but many of these so-called christians don’t exactly follow this.
