It looks like Global Water Resources’ proposed rate increase will cost the average Maricopa resident one Costco hot dog.

The utility has reduced the overall impact of its proposed rate increase, according to a letter provided today to InMaricopa. Under the revised settlement, the average residential customer would see a combined water and wastewater bill increase of about $1.56 per month, or roughly 1.5%.

The proposal increases monthly water bills by an average of $2.68 while decreasing wastewater charges by $1.12, resulting in the net increase. The revised figures are lower than the settlement announced earlier this year, which proposed an average combined increase of about $2.68 per month.

“In conversations with our Maricopa customers, you have told us that transparency, predictability, and avoiding large rate increases are important. We hear you, and we are committed to keeping you informed about the rate review process and what may be ahead,” the letter read.

A hearing on the rate request and settlement agreement will take place with the Arizona Corporation Commission’s Utilities Division at 10 a.m. Aug. 3. If approved, the new rate will take effect in November.

Customers who want to provide comments on the rate increase have three options:

Global Water also told customers it expects to file its next wastewater rate review in 2027 and its next water rate review in 2028. The utility did not specify how much the rate could increase.
