Maricopa’s long-awaited pedestrian bridge is expected to open to the public toward the end of spring 2027, the city told InMaricopa.

The bridge, which will span the Union Pacific Railroad tracks near State Route 347, is intended to provide pedestrians and bicyclists with a safer way to cross the tracks.

Construction continues on the project, with the contractor having completed installation of the elevator shafts, bridge columns and bridge piers over the railroad tracks.

Crews are currently forming and pouring concrete for the bridge deck and side walls over the tracks.

The project has been years in the making. The city previously announced construction would begin in 2025 after securing funding for the pedestrian crossing.

The bridge is part of the city’s efforts to improve pedestrian connectivity as Maricopa continues to grow. Its elevators will provide access to the elevated crossing for pedestrians, bicyclists and people with mobility limitations.

ADOT is managing construction of the project and is responsible for the construction schedule. The city said ADOT is the best point of contact for additional questions about the timeline or project schedule.

The latest estimate puts the bridge’s opening toward the end of spring 2027, although the schedule remains subject to construction progress.
