New development could bring long-requested services to Maricopa

A laundromat, self-service car wash and office suites could be headed for Honeycutt Road.

The Lakes at Rancho El Dorado resident Isaiah Adkins is looking to bring a new commercial development called Honeycutt Square that would bring much-requested services to the city.

Adkins told InMaricopa said the idea stems from both personal experience and repeated community demand, especially after moving to Maricopa in 2019.

“Every time we go on social media, we see posts about, ‘Why isn’t there a laundromat?’ or ‘We’d love a self-serve car wash,’” he said. “We got excited about trying to make it happen.”

The four-acre parcel sits between the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and Public Storage on Honeycutt and Gunsmoke Roads.

The commercial property would allow for space for a laundromat with approximately 50 machines, a 24-hour self-service car wash with six bays and three buildings for up to 30 office suites. Other plans include an auto mechanic shop and a Little Caesars franchise.

Just last week, residents mulled seeing at least one of these businesses make their way to Maricopa. While the responses were mixed, a large number said they saw the benefit of seeing one open in the city.

“Yes, don’t need one now, but for emergencies when something breaks down, or need a big washer for comforters,” wrote Diane Berg.

Adkins said he’s experienced that frustration himself.

“I’ve had my washer and dryer break down before. So, the time needed to bring somebody in to repair it and having to get laundry done between that time was just a headache,” he said.

While Honeycutt Square is still in its planning phase, Adkins is looking for angel investors and general contractors to help get the project off the ground. The current budget for the entire project is estimated to reach $11 million, with a plan to have the laundromat, car wash and several offices open next year.

The most exciting part for him though is the thought of bringing more jobs to Maricopa.

“We really want to make it to where the infrastructure is there so people can have their own businesses in Maricopa,” Adkins said. “Getting jobs more into Maricopa is actually more exciting to me than the laundromat itself.”

  1. Right on. We desperately need a laundromat and a self-serve car wash. Our government will not do it so this is great news. Good luck as so many of us residents support this.

  2. The original proposed sight for the car wash at Porter and White-Parker was a TERRIBLE idea. So many charter school kids ride bikes past this property. I’ve seen for myself how drivers love to run stop signs at a business. The now proposed location is more suited for a business like a Laundromat and car wash. I would love to see it happen here.
