Construction crews are nearing completion of a traffic light installation at Desert Greens Drive and Smith–Enke Road.
The $1.3 million project will be completed by the end of the month, city officials told InMaricopa yesterday.
The project began in June with a periodic closure of Desert Greens between Colby Drive and Smith-Enke Road. Workers constructed a westbound right-turn lane at the intersection and last weekend installed a traffic light.
The impetus for the traffic light installation was to improve safety at the intersection, particularly for motorists attempting to turn or cross Smith–Enke Road during heavier traffic periods.
The project is part of a broader effort to invest in transportation infrastructure as Maricopa continues to expand, according to city officials.
