Patti Coutre: Why she’s running for another term on the MUSD board

Patti Coutre.

I have been a Maricopa resident since 2005, am mother of four and a proud MUSD parent and community leader. For more than 14 years, I have served on the Maricopa Unified School District Governing Board and currently serve as board president. All four of my children attended MUSD schools and graduated from Maricopa High School, giving me a deeply personal connection to the students, families, teachers and schools that make our community special.

My commitment to public service began with wanting to make a difference for my own children and grew into a passion for advocating for every child in our community. Through my board service and my work with the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sun Corridor, I have seen how strong schools, dedicated educators and community partnerships can change the lives of young people.

I am running for re-election because I believe experience, thoughtful leadership, accountability and community involvement matter. I hope to continue working collaboratively to strengthen academic achievement, support our teachers and staff, maintain responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars and ensure every MUSD student has the opportunity to succeed.

Priorities:

Student achievement and opportunities: Support strong academic programs, improve achievement in core subjects and expand opportunities that prepare students for college, careers and life.

Safe schools and strong teachers and staff: Advocate for safe schools, effective behavioral supports and the resources teachers and staff need to provide the best possible education and support for our students.

Fiscal responsibility and transparency: Make responsible financial decisions while keeping resources focused on students and classrooms through sound budgeting, accountability, transparency and open communication with families, staff and the community.

The idea of a third space is a gathering spot that isn’t work or home. Think a place like the cozy Central Perk coffee shop in "Friends" or the bar where everybody knows your name in "Cheers." Maricopa, what’s your favorite third space?
