Authorities have confirmed that the pedestrian struck Thursday night on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway has died.

The Pinal County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Maricopa resident Madison Paige Coughlin, 24. She died Feb. 12 from multiple blunt impact injuries. Her death was ruled an accident.

The crash occurred about 9:39 p.m. near Porter Road in front of the Walmart plaza. Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway was shut down in both directions between Porter Road and White-and-Parker Road for more than eight hours while officers investigated. The Pinal County Vehicular Crimes Unit assisted the Maricopa Police Department.

Coughlin’s death came eight days before her 25th birthday.

Her mother, Amy Coughlin of Rancho El Dorado, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral expenses and anticipated legal costs. As of this morning, $5,760 of the $10,000 goal had been raised to cover funeral and legal expenses.

“Her life was unexpectedly taken from this world,” the fundraiser states. “She was the most amazing, loving, beautiful, kind soul who we all were blessed to have ever had in our lives.”

According to the post, Madison Coughlin spent the last five years working with autistic children as a therapist and also worked at Southern Dunes Golf Course. She was pursuing a personal trainer certification.

“All she ever wanted to do was spread positive energy and love anywhere she went,” the fundraiser states.

Police have not yet released additional details about the circumstances of the collision, including whether any citations or charges are pending.

The crash followed a string of pedestrian-related incidents earlier in the week, including a driver cited after striking a 12-year-old in a school zone. The next night, an 11-year-old was struck near Culver’s in at least the city’s fifth pedestrian crash in four days; that driver was also cited.

  1. My sincere condolences to Ms. Coughlin’s family. My fear reading this article, with the way motorist are driving in that area her passing will only be the first death of many injuries and deaths to come in that area where all those apartments are located and not the last.
