UPDATE 7:21 a.m. Feb. 13, 2026 Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway reopened after eight hours.

ORIGINAL STORY 10:08 p.m. Feb. 12, 2026 Just before 10 p.m. tonight, Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway was shut down in both directions between Porter Road and White-and-Parker Road as police investigated a serious injury vehicle versus pedestrian collision.

The crash occurred about 9:39 p.m. near Porter Road in front of the Walmart plaza, according to radio logs. Maricopa Fire and Medical Department crews were dispatched to the scene.

As is standard procedure in serious injury crashes, the Pinal County Vehicular Crimes Unit is responding to assist the Maricopa Police Department with the investigation. Authorities have not released details about the pedestrian’s condition or how the collision occurred.

It is unknown how long the roadway will remain closed.

Reporters on scene observed officers searching a drainage ditch along the side of the highway. At least seven marked police units with red and blue lights flashing blocked traffic in both directions. One MFMD fire truck remained on scene.

The crash follows reporting earlier today about a driver cited after a 12-year-old riding a scooter was struck while crossing Porter Road near Adams Way with a guard in a school zone.

Yesterday morning, a child was transported to a hospital as a precaution after a reported pedestrian crash in the Tortosa neighborhood. No substantial injuries were reported.

The day before, on Tuesday morning, emergency crews responded to Butterfield Elementary School after a report of a vehicle striking a pedestrian, though officers were unable to locate a victim or involved driver.

InMaricopa will update this story as information becomes available.

  1. Bringing back state funded drivers education would benefit everyone, little things like pedestrians always have the right away would be standard knowledge instead of “what’s a right away?” Easy for the state to cut those programs to trim budgets, now we have an entire generation of inexperienced drivers that hit the road that never really did read that drivers manual, long term planners would have asked what’s a human life worth over a short term budget fix that has left everyone runner thru cross walks now.

      1. Yeah, it’s annoying once we post a comment here can’t edit grammatical errors, I meant running thru a crosswalk also, not runner, though, appreciate you pointing out right of way, that’s huge.
