ORIGINAL STORY Oct. 27, 6:47 p.m.: Maricopa Police Department is searching for a hit-and-run suspect after an afternoon crash near the city’s busiest intersection.
Police and fire crews responded to North John Wayne Parkway and West Smith-Enke Road at 5:45 p.m. with a report of the hit and run, according to city spokesperson Monica Williams.
A white Chevrolet truck with damage to its front was stopped in a northbound lane of John Wayne Parkway. Reporters saw debris was scattered on the roadway in front of it, and its driver side door resisted and creaked when police opened it.
The second driver, which police believe was at fault, was nowhere to be seen.
“The offending car crossed the median and then fled the scene,” Williams told InMaricopa at 6:24 p.m., adding that the department “has identification leads on the car at fault who left the scene and is currently working to locate that vehicle.”
The male driver of the white truck was transported to the hospital as a precaution, Williams said. The crash was cleared by 6:10 p.m.
