It’s now a seven-way race to Maricopa City Council.
James Singleton, chairman for the Maricopa Planning and Zoning Commission, submitted his official paperwork to run for city council.
“The exciting news everyone has been waiting for — I’m officially Maricopa City Council Candidate 26-07,” he announced Nov. 14 on Facebook.
Over the phone yesterday, Singleton said he sees this as a chance to get more involved and drive the city forward.
“I just love being a part of this community,” he told InMaricopa. “I live here, so I want it to be the best it can, not just for me and my family but for everyone here. So, why not be a part of that to make Maricopa better overall?”
A member of the 347 Facts Committee, Singleton said transportation would be one of his top priorities, but also city transit.
“It’s not just about moving people in and out of the city, but also through the city with bike lanes and walking paths,” he said.
Other issues he wants to focus on include public safety and youth activities, a topic important to him as an assistant coach for Maricopa High School’s swim team.
Singleton joins a growing list of challengers for the coveted seats, including Chrystal Allen-O’Jon, Kristena “Tena” Dugan and Adam Leach. Incumbent councilmembers AnnaMarie Knorr and Vincent Manfredi also submitted their paperwork to run again. Vice Mayor Henry Wade previously confirmed by phone he intends to run again.
Vincent Manfredi is an owner of InMaricopa.
