Rep. Eli Crane backs SAVE America Act as House advances federal voter ID bill

The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday passed the SAVE America Act, legislation that would require identification to vote in federal elections.

Rep. Eli Crane, who represents Maricopa in Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District, supported the measure. The bill builds on the text of the SAVE Act, which Crane also supported.

According to a 2025 study conducted by Pew Research, 95% of Republicans and 71% of Democrats support voter ID. While many states, including Arizona, currently implement voter ID policies, others do not follow the same standards.

Supporters say the National Mail Voter Registration Form relies solely on self-attestation, allowing applicants to check a box under penalty of perjury without additional safeguards against ineligible registrations.

The SAVE America Act would require states to establish programs to identify and remove non-citizens from existing voter rolls and would provide states with no-cost access to federal databases containing citizenship information.

Specifically, the legislation would:

  • Require voters to show a photo ID when casting a ballot. Absentee and mail-in voters could attach a copy of their ID to their mail-in ballot.
  • Amend the National Voter Registration Act, which has governed state voter registration since 1993, to require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship in person when registering to vote in a federal election.
  • Require states to check for noncitizens and other ineligible registrants on voter rolls at least once a month.
  • Direct states to create procedures to address documentation discrepancies so that no eligible voter is disqualified due to a name change.
  • Allow eligible voters to register and provide documentary proof of citizenship by mail if their state allows early voting or same-day voter registration.
  • Allow eligible voters to cast a provisional ballot if they forget required documentation on Election Day.

“I’m proud to support the SAVE America Act, which requires voter ID to participate in our electoral process. The American people overwhelmingly support this concept, and Congress should waste no time in making this a reality,” Crane said. “By shoring up vulnerabilities in our system, we prevent ineligible votes from diluting the voice of American citizens. I urge the Senate to rise to the occasion and codify this sensible reform into law.”

The measure has moved to the U.S. Senate for consideration.

  1. I deny that Crane was wearing black in that photo.

That’s the Deep State and the Radical Left trying to photoshop this man as Darth Vader.

I’m batshit crazy and I vote!

  2. Surely there are much better ways of preventing non-citizens from voting in elections, right? Why should we have to bring things like our birth certificate as proof? It makes no sense.

    1. They will claim it is to stop illegal immigrants from voting when in reality that’s the last thing they would do, especially in this political climate.

In truth, making it more difficult for legal citizens to vote benefits the Republicans in the upcoming midterms, statistically speaking. They are hoping it will discourage Democrats and Independents from coming to the polls if they make it more of a hassle.

It’s also another way to disenfranchise and harass people of color, which is always a big plus for Republicans.

I wonder how they will be able to practice election denialism this time if they lose? I’m sure they will find a way…
