Taco Bell, numero dos, opens with a (quiet) ‘bong’

It’s been a long wait. But at 10 a.m. today, Maricopa’s second Taco Bell quietly opened at 42080 W. Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.

“We’re excited to be open and share our business with everybody here,” restaurant manager Harlan Roberts said. “We got a full staff. We’re ready to rock and roll.”

The city’s second Taco Bell is among several businesses that have come to The Wells shopping center in recent months, including Slim Chickens, Bosa Donuts and Tractor Supply Co.

Established in 1962, the California-based fast-food chain is one of the biggest in the world, with a strong presence in the U.S. and many other countries. There are more than 180 locations in Arizona.

Late-morning customer Chris Moffatt said he was just driving by when he saw the Tex-Mex restaurant was open.

“It’s brand new so it is of course going to be clean and well kept, and I thought it was nice and inviting, so I’m glad I came in,” Moffatt said.

The first location is on the John Wayne strip near Bashas’.
