‘Traumatizing’: Cops hunt for armed Rancho home invader

Maricopa Police Department is on the lookout for an unidentified armed burglar who broke into a Rancho El Dorado house last week while a child was said to be home alone.

The reported break-in occurred at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday at a home on the 41000 block of West Hillman Drive in the northeast corner of the subdivision, MPD spokesperson Monica Williams said yesterday.

The homeowner claimed their daughter was home alone when the power went out and she heard glass breaking. She locked herself in a room and dialed 911.

When officers arrived, they found the suspect cut power to the home and used a hammer to break in a window in the backyard, according to the homeowner. Police also found two bags the burglar left behind allegedly filled with the homeowner’s belongings, including their gun.

Williams confirmed Monday the intruder fled the scene before officers arrived and the department is actively investigating the break-in.

It was a “traumatizing” event for the homeowner and their family, according to a post on the social networking site Nextdoor.

“I have lived here since 2008 and never had anything like this happen before,” the resident wrote.

A Glennwilde resident said someone attempted to break into their home during daytime hours the next day. Despite having home surveillance, the would-be burglar was not captured on camera.

“Just so crazy how you had the same incident not even 24 hours ago,” the Glennwilde resident wrote.
