WATCH: Erratic driver crashes into cop car during police chase

Lane A. Patton’s girlfriend was sitting on the ground, crying on the phone with dispatchers when her 29-year-old boyfriend nearly ran her over in his truck as he fled from Maricopa Police Department officers in new police footage released to InMaricopa today.

On Feb. 25 just before 3 p.m. MPD responded to a reported suicide attempt at Manderas Lane and Morena Place in Santa Rosa Springs.

Patton’s girlfriend had called 911 to report that her boyfriend, now aged 30, had slit his wrists and driven away in a green pickup truck.

Patton’s truck in the new police footage can be seen doing donuts in a nearby lot, billowing clouds of dirt as police arrive on scene. Spotting the officers, he speeds off, fishtailing his truck and almost striking his girlfriend and MPD Officer Andrew Morrison, who was interviewing her.

Officers proceed to follow him south on Manderas Lane when he pulls a sudden U-turn, speeding back toward his girlfriend and ultimately colliding with Morrison’s police cruiser.

InMaricopa has reported that Morrison sustained minor injuries to his leg and ankle from the incident and MPD valued the damage to the police car at about $10,000.

Patton was booked into the Pinal County jail on felony charges of unlawful flight, aggravated assault on an officer and criminal damage over $10,000 as well as misdemeanor counts of reckless driving and endangerment.

In Pinal County Superior Court on March 5, he pleaded guilty to endangerment by risk of imminent death in a plea bargain and in exchange the prosecutor dismissed the other charges.
