One person is dead, and another was seriously injured following a head-on crash last night on John Wayne Parkway, just south of Sonoran Desert Parkway, authorities said.
The Maricopa Police Department and Maricopa Fire/Medical Department responded to the two-vehicle crash at about 8:15 p.m. Emergency crews determined that one vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and struck another vehicle head-on.
One driver died at the scene, while the other was transported to a hospital by ambulance, according to police. The surviving driver’s condition remains unknown. No other passengers were in either vehicle.
The Pinal County Vehicular Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation.
Southbound lanes of John Wayne Parkway at Sonoran Desert Parkway are expected to remain closed for several hours. Northbound traffic is currently reduced to one lane.
