A cook at a Maricopa Asian fusion restaurant was arrested at gunpoint Saturday after he allegedly threatened to stab his coworker to death.
Maricopa Police Department responded to W & Z Asian Bistro, a restaurant on the John Wayne strip, at about 4:30 p.m. on a report that two men were fighting, according to a probable cause statement.
The 911 caller reported a man wearing all black was pointing a kitchen knife at an employee.
Responding officers reported finding 57-year-old Jun Lyu, wearing all black, in the back of the restaurant cooking food. The officers took him into custody at gunpoint and used a “language assistance line” to communicate with him.
According to the report, Lyu, who worked at the restaurant, told officers he was arguing with a fellow employee about food in the kitchen when his coworker began yelling profanities at him.
Lyu reportedly admitted to officers that he became upset and “pushed” the other employee against the fridge. “While this was happening, he did grab a knife and held it in his right hand” and “used his left hand to push [the victim] below his neck and above his chest,” the officers reported.
That alleged victim told officers Lyu grabbed him by the throat, pinned him against the wall and held a kitchen knife above his head. He added that Lyu was making a “stabbing motion” with the knife and said: “Believe it or not, I will kill you,” while pinning him against the wall. Lyu denied making any threats.
Lyu was booked into the Pinal County jail on charges of aggravated assault and disorderly conduct. He faces two years in prison.
