Maricopa City Council last night approved the sale of more than 4 acres next to Sonoran Creek Marketplace.
Tacoma, Wash.-based Miravest, a commercial real estate investment and development firm, will purchase 4¼ acres on the southeast corner of Edison Road and Wilson Avenue for $1.45 million.
But what will be built there is still up in the air.
According to its website, Miravest has developed hotels, retail sites, multifamily townhomes and medical facilities in Arizona and Washington State.
The contract is similar to a sale agreement approved by the council in 2022 to Scottsdale developer Geston Duffy Company for $1.42 million.
Sixteen months later, Geston Duffy submitted pre-application paperwork to build a mixed-use residential community on the parcel, consisting of a trio of three-story buildings.
The developer said it envisioned office units on the first floor of a building at Hathaway and Wilson Avenues, according to a project narrative. The remaining floors and buildings would consist of 136 multifamily housing units that range in size from 500 to 1100 square feet.
Geston Duffy did not specify what types of businesses it hoped to attract, and no further action was taken to move forward with development, leading to a new sale agreement with a new developer.
