Crash outside hotel sends car into ditch

A two-vehicle crash outside La Quinta Inn sent emergency crews to the scene early this afternoon.

The collision occurred at 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of John Wayne Parkway and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, according to Phoenix Regional Dispatch. A silver Jeep Grand Cherokee and a black Ford Fusion were the two cars involved in the crash, said a hotel guest who witnessed it while turning into the property.

The Ford, which sustained front driver’s side damage, came to rest in a ditch at the bottom of a rocky hill east of the parkway. The Jeep was idle in the roadway.

A pregnant woman and her fiancé, both occupants of the Fusion, were seen standing near the vehicle after the crash. They said they did not believe they were at fault. Firefighters evaluated the woman at the scene.

The Jeep had damage to its front passenger side. Its driver said he hadn’t been in a crash in decades as he scrambled to produce his insurance information. No serious injuries were reported.

Maricopa Fire Department Ladder 574 and an ambulance responded. No road closures or traffic blockages were reported.
