Detectives find, charge woman who crashed into Glennwilde home

Maricopa Police Department detectives on Wednesday lodged hit-and-run charges against a woman caught on camera driving into a Glennwilde home last month.

Andrew Schlecht shared security footage captured at 3 a.m. July 21 at his home on the 19000 block of North Arbor Drive with hopes someone would recognize the suspect.

The video showed a Mercedes Benz SUV crashing into his house, causing what police estimated to be $13,000 worth of damage, before fleeing the scene. Schlecht also provided photos of damage to his garage and a pillar near his front door.

“After a thorough investigation, detectives identified Laura Williams, 44, as the suspect in this case,” Police Chief Mark Goodman told InMaricopa Friday.

Detectives had located and interviewed Williams Aug. 14, when she “admitted to being the driver of the vehicle,” and said “she was briefly staying at an Airbnb in Maricopa and had been consuming alcoholic beverages at a nearby casino,” Goodman said.

Williams reportedly admitted to the hit-and-run and told police she was disoriented in the neighborhood. When she tried to turn around, she accelerated to avoid stalling and hit the home.

Goodman said he is “glad we were able to hold the suspect accountable and assist in this case.”

Williams is charged with criminal damage and fleeing the scene of an accident. She faces one year in jail.
