Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers say a driver was criminally cited after being clocked at 100 mph on State Route 347 days before Christmas.

According to an AZDPS Facebook post this morning, a Highway Patrol trooper spotted the vehicle “weaving in and out of traffic” around 6:30 a.m. Dec. 23 in Pinal County.

A LiDAR speed device registered the car at 100 mph in a 65-mph zone.

The driver told the trooper he was trying to get home from work and was attempting to get around traffic, DPS said.

Citing “exigent circumstances,” the trooper criminally cited the driver for criminal speed and reckless driving and released him at the scene. The vehicle was towed and impounded for 20 days, according to the agency.

The case was featured in DPS’s holiday “Speeding Saturday” roundup highlighting extreme speeding stops statewide.
