Maricopa drivers will see closures and lane restrictions on John Wayne Parkway and in Rancho El Dorado during a busy stretch of road work in early May.

The City of Maricopa announced three upcoming projects affecting John Wayne Parkway, Smith-Enke Road, Cobblestone Drive and Rancho El Dorado Parkway.

The first closure begins Friday at 4 a.m., when the northbound right-turn lane on John Wayne Parkway at Cobblestone Drive closes for paving work. The closure is scheduled to last until Sunday at 9 p.m.

The work will create a new right-turn lane into the commercial area at the northeast corner of John Wayne Parkway and Smith-Enke Road, according to the city.

Drivers heading north on John Wayne Parkway should expect delays and consider alternate routes. The city said crews will reopen the roadway early if the work is finished ahead of schedule.

A longer closure begins May 4, when the intersection of North Reis Drive and West Rancho El Dorado Parkway closes for roadway repairs. That full intersection closure is scheduled to last through May 22.

Local access will be maintained where possible, but through traffic will not be allowed, according to the city.

Also beginning May 4, Sunland Asphalt will conduct pavement warranty work at John Wayne Parkway and Smith-Enke Road. Turn lanes at the intersection will be closed overnight from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. through May 7.

The city said the overnight work is scheduled to reduce daytime traffic impacts, though drivers should still expect minor delays and use caution in the area.

Temporary traffic control devices and signage will be in place during the projects. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.

Residents can view current projects on the city’s Road Work Map.
