First Starbucks off main strip now under construction, will open this year

An aerial view shows the construction site for Maricopa’s second freestanding Starbucks at Stonegate Plaza along the Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway, outlined in red, with the shopping center and surrounding neighborhoods in the background.

Maricopa’s fourth Starbucks, and only its second freestanding location, is now under construction along Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway at Stonegate Plaza in front of The Home Depot.

The coffee shop was first proposed two years ago and is being built next door to the future Someburros restaurant. New paperwork filed with the city last week offers the first detailed look at the project since construction began, confirming the building’s layout and how the site is being developed.

Renderings and plans included in the submittal show the familiar Starbucks look, with the round siren logo mounted on multiple sides of the building so it is visible from different angles within Stonegate Plaza. The exterior materials and colors match the company’s standard freestanding design, giving Maricopa its first clear glimpse of what the finished store will look like.

The location will mark the first Starbucks away from Maricopa’s main commercial strip. The city’s other standalone store sits at John Wayne Parkway and Smith-Enke Road, while the other two locations are embedded within Bashas’ and Fry’s grocery stores.

A construction video posted by 41 North Contractors of Scottsdale shows active work underway at the site. The new Starbucks location will open sometime in 2026, contractors confirmed, although no specific opening date is announced.
