GUILTY: Historic Trump verdict felt locally

It only took Jeff Northrup half an hour to make a public display on Maricopa’s main drag after a Manhattan jury found Donald Trump guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, the first president to ever be convicted of a crime.

Northrup, a Maricopa Meadows resident, has garnered much attention — supportive and sneering — from passersby since Trump was convicted yesterday afternoon.

“I wasn’t ready for the trial to end yesterday, but as soon as it did, I threw together this double-sided sign and came out,” Northrup said. “I was out here about 3 o’clock yesterday.”

Northrup toted a Trump-shaped piñata to his demonstration, decked out with a Trump tie, gold Converse sneakers and a Trump-branded Bible “for sale.”

“It’s such a victorious day for America,” Northrup told InMaricopa.

Northrup exercised his First Amendment right on North John Wayne Parkway at Smith-Enke Road again this morning before 9 a.m., and a third time at 3 p.m.

Some like-minded drivers honked their horns and threw thumbs up. Others hollered “F*ck you, commie,” and “Trump is innocent.”
