[Pinal County Sheriff's Office]

A traffic stop over an illegal U-turn led police to a canceled registration, a suspected impaired driver and a sex-offender registry violation.

Police pulled over the car around 3 p.m. Oct. 3 after observing it make an illegal U-turn, finding a man and two women in the front seat.

The driver, 64-year-old Senita resident Jefferson McGee had watery, bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol, according to a probable cause statement.

McGee told officers he had consumed one shot of alcohol before driving. Officers also found an E&J Brandy shooter was found alongside a marijuana pipe with residue inside and several other unopened shooters.

McGee showed signs of impairment during field sobriety testing, according to the statement.

During the search, officers learned the vehicle’s canceled registration was linked to McGee’s failure to update his information as a registered sex offender within the required 72-hour period.

McGee was arrested on suspicion of failing to register as a sex offender, impaired driving and an open-container violation.
