A juvenile was arrested after breaking into an unoccupied home on Marion May Lane in the city’s Desert Passage neighborhood, according to the Maricopa Police Department.
Police responded to a report of someone inside the vacant property and found a teenager who has a history of running away, a department spokesperson told InMaricopa today.
Officers say entry was made through a broken window and a piece of rebar was used as a burglary tool. The home is currently for sale and unoccupied, with a real estate sign posted in the front yard this morning.
The juvenile was arrested on suspicion of burglary, possession of burglary tools and criminal damage.
A source familiar with the incident told InMaricopa the teen used the shower and defecated in the backyard, though police have not confirmed those details. MPD said that although the teen was inside the home without permission, the incident does not qualify as a squatting case, despite speculation from nearby residents.

Police said squatter-related calls are infrequent in Maricopa. When they do occur, the department works with homeowners and prosecutors under Arizona state law to resolve the matter.
InMaricopa reached out to the listing agent for comment but did not receive a response by publication.
