A child was arrested during a standoff with cops in Senita that made headlines in August, according to a new police document released to InMaricopa Friday.
InMaricopa first reported Aug. 21 that MPD arrested Dylan K. Rope, 21, on charges of resisting arrest, aggravated assault on a police office and criminal nuisance. His dad Dave Rope, 45, was also arrested for obstruction, hindering and resisting arrest, according to a probable cause statement obtained at the time.
Both men were tased.
However, it has since been discovered that Dylan’s younger brother, a minor, was also jailed that night.
Dylan and Dave had active warrants when cops arrived at their Estrada Street home Aug. 18. Dave for disobeying a judge after pleading guilty to a theft in Page and Dylan for a March police encounter when he was reported to be selling drugs out of his car and arrested for possessing dangerous drugs.
Officers were called to the Rope family home that night on a report that Dylan was screaming uncontrollably.
Dylan’s younger brother was standing outside and when police asked him if he was Dylan, he said “yes.” Officers at the time didn’t question his admission and tried to handcuff him, but he resisted. That’s when Dave walked outside and told police they had the wrong guy.
Dave and the younger brother proceeded to block police from entering the house to arrest Dylan. Officers tried to explain that what they were doing was illegal, but the two continued to obstruct justice.
When officers attempted to arrest Dave for obstruction, he allegedly resisted arrest and cops “threw him to the ground” and tased him.
Officers also initiated the arrest of Dylan’s younger brother for obstruction and, according to the new police report, he was “refusing all directives” and “actively resisting, yelling and cussing at officers.”
The cops had to “assist him to the ground,” they said. He was read his Juvenile Miranda rights and the boy stated he understood his right to remain silent but refused to sign the Juvenile Miranda form.
While that was happening outside the house, police entered the house and confronted Dylan in the hallway where he “squared up” and began “flailing his arms and legs” while screaming at officers. “A taser has to be utilized to get Dylan into custody,” the police document stated.
When Dylan was being loaded into a squad car, he kicked an officer “in a donkey-style manner.”
Dave and Dylan were transported to the Pinal County Jail while the younger brother was transported to Pinal County Juvenile Detention.
The younger brother faces a year in juvie on charges of obstruction and resisting arrest.
