UPDATE 6:11 p.m. Mar. 11, 2025 The brushfire near Anderson Road and La Brea Road was caused by an “unauthorized fire” that quickly spread due to high winds, according to Maricopa Fire and Medical Department.

“Due to the high winds, by the time the crews arrived, the grass fire had become a fully involved brush fire spanning at least three properties,” MFMD spokesperson Monica Williams told InMaricopa.

Crews focused on an area where several inoperable cars began to catch on fire, Williams explained, adding that Ak-Chin Fire and Chandler Fire departments, and nearby residents helped move some of those vehicles and create a fire break.

Crews were able to stop forward progress and contain the fire to approximately 6 acres,” Williams said. “No structures were damaged, and no injuries were reported.”

ORIGINAL 3:16 p.m. Mar. 11, 2025 Maricopa Fire Department is on the scene of a large uncontrolled brushfire on Maricopa’s east side. The fire broke out around 2:10 p.m. near Anderson Road and La Brea Road.

Maricopa and Ak-Chin Fire Departments responded. Chandler Fire Department was responding at 3:15 p.m.

“Crews are working right now to gain full access to where the fire is burning,” said Maricopa Fire spokeswoman Monica Williams. “We know that is has burned a few vehicles on the property causing for some of that dark smoke to be seen on the east side of town.”

Neighbors say a Cadillac sedan and trailer caught fire at the wrecker lot, 15340 N. Anderson Road, owned by Maricopa landscaper Building Paradise LLC.

“We are going to put out a note out shortly reminding people if they are sensitive to smoke to avoid going outside until it clears,” said Williams.

The National Weather Service issued red flag warnings for several Arizona counties, including Pinal. The culprit is hot, dry, and windy weather.
