A 10-year-old Maricopa Little League pitcher hit a major milestone this week, then made the day even bigger at the plate.
Madilynn Depasque, who plays in the Minors division, recorded her 100th strikeout of the season during a game Saturday, according to her mother, Tortosa resident Kendra Depasque. In her most recent game, Madilynn also hit her first grand slam.
Her team remains undefeated this season and has become a local youth softball highlight, Kendra said, with support coming from teammates, coaches, families and players from opposing teams.
After Saturday’s game, the opposing coach told Madilynn they had taken their team to the batting cages to prepare to face her.
For the Depasque family, the season has carried extra meaning. They moved to Arizona from Florida without knowing anyone and without nearby family, making the community support around Madilynn and her team especially meaningful.
One of the most touching moments came when a 94-year-old great-grandmother came out to watch Madilynn reach the 100-strikeout milestone, Kendra said.
“It’s moments like these that really showcase the heart, dedication and spirit of youth sports in Maricopa,” she said.
