Forgot to tune into last night’s Maricopa City Council meeting? Thankfully it wasn’t a three-hour long endeavor like some recent meetings, but here are a couple of noteworthy things you might have missed.

Ambassadors of Maricopa Program

Does learning about new events and programs in the city get you amped up?

Maricopa is starting a new volunteer initiative called Ambassadors of Maricopa Program aimed at helping residents stay informed and share city updates within the community.

Multimedia Communications Coordinator Elle Ortega said volunteers are “essentially acting as representatives for the city of Maricopa and help spreading that information.”

Applications for the program open tomorrow at 10 a.m. For more information about the program or to get involved, visit the city website

Making Maricopa a special-designated city

City council unanimously approved a resolution to create a process for Maricopa to receive special community designations, such as becoming an autism-friendly or dementia-friendly city.

The policy, which was introduced in January’s futures planning meeting, requires designation efforts be community-led and community-funded; city staff would provide guidance on meeting requirements. City council would give final approval for any special designations.

Councilmember Amber Liermann said these kinds of policies “can positively impact our community members and improve the quality of their life.”

  1. How about we vote all of these bums out of city council including the Mayor? Not a single one is doing anything to correct the infrastructure issue and adding one lane to the 347 each direction while rubber stamping every housing development that comes across their desk isn’t the answer.
All housing development should be halted until there is more than one route to Phoenix and proper healthcare and shopping centers.

    1. Yep,the minority is front and center in this regime.
      TERM LIMITS city
      TERM LIMITS school board
      TERM LIMITS pinal county supervisors
FULL FINANCIAL DISCLOSERS to all entering any of the above mentioned and yearly disclosures while in office.
Lets break up these exclusive clubs that we are not privy to and take our once safe, peaceful, majority first community back with common sense policies.

      1. I want to agree with you on some of your operational points as they appear rooted in logic and common sense.

However, I’m getting stuck on the minority/majority thing, can you please elaborate?

I don’t want to jump to conclusions since, as we all know, you are not the greatest writer amongst us…

          1. I would hope so… I didn’t want to assume. I can get behind that sentiment.

#JD4CityCouncil? All joking aside, I would vote for him. I’d love if one of us was on the council…
