Edkey has announced another round of layoffs coming next month.

In a statement to InMaricopa today, the charter school operator said the employees had been notified.

This comes after 73 employees were laid off on Friday in an effort to right the financially struggling ship. Since December, EdKey has laid off 119 employees, 30 of which were teachers, according to today’s statement.

In Maricopa, Sequoia Pathway laid off five employees, two of whom were teachers.

Maricopa employees were asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement before receiving severance, according to a person familiar with the layoffs.

When the last round of layoffs was announced, EdKey Chief Operating Officer Dr. Yovhane Metcalfe said the changes would not impact students’ learning, citing that class sizes average 24 students.

“Based on enrollment levels and student needs at each campus, our school leaders have redesigned their staffing plans to ensure there is no disruption to your child’s daily instruction,” she said. “We have been deliberate about these adjustments recognizing the unique nature of each campus and are confident that each child we serve will continue to receive a high-quality learning experience. This decisive reduction allows us to ‘right size’ our campuses based on current enrollment but still ensures every child enrolled at an Edkey school is known.”

This comes on the heels of lawsuitscomplaints to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office and the SEC, and ongoing financial issues within the charter school system.
