For local musicians, finding instruments and equipment often meant driving out of town. Corey Howard wants to change that. Since moving to Maricopa in 2021, he’s built a home-based music supply business with a simple goal: helping neighbors create music while growing toward a future brick-and-mortar store.
How did you end up in Maricopa?
I moved to Maricopa in 2021 after earning my B.S. in Environmental Geoscience from University of Texas at El Paso. I originally came to start a career in the environmental industry, but my deep love for this community and music inspired me to launch this business right here at home.
One word that describes your company? Why?
Passionate. Music isn’t just a business for me; I am also an independent artist and it is a lifelong love. I am deeply passionate about helping people find the exact gear they need. Being able to supply my neighbors with tools to create music makes this work incredibly special to me.
What inspired you to start this business?
I always dreamed of owning a business, and I noticed Maricopa lacked local access to instruments and gear. I wanted to solve that problem. Why should our community have to travel out of town when I can bring top-quality musical supplies right to your door?
What do you enjoy most about your line of work?
The customer interactions are the best part. Musicians and music lovers are so passionate about what they do. Connecting with you all inspires me daily to keep growing and building this business.
What has been your proudest accomplishment in your career?
Successfully launching this business and partnering with premium small-business suppliers. These strong relationships allow me to source the highest-quality instruments and supplies on the market for my customers.
What misconceptions do people have about your industry?
People often assume we have a traditional retail storefront. Right now, we operate entirely online to keep costs low for you. However, with our community’s continued support, our goal is to open a physical shop very soon!
What sets your business apart from others in Maricopa?
We are proud to be the only dedicated music supply source physically based right here in Maricopa.
What do you love about serving Maricopa?
This community has an incredible heart for supporting local, small businesses. Every time a new customer discovers us, it feels like welcoming a new member into our growing musical family.
How do you give back to the community?
We are already planning instrument giveaways and music equipment donations for our local schools. As we continue to grow, reinvesting in Maricopa’s young musicians is a top priority.
What’s next for you and your business?
A true store front! A brick-and-mortar storefront! Our ultimate dream is to open a physical music hub in Maricopa where you can walk in, test out instruments, and grab your gear the same day.
What’s the best business advice you’ve ever received?
Take it one step at a time, build a strong foundation, and always focus on quality over speed.
