The last time Maricopa residents participated in a “No Kings” protest, about 300 people lined John Wayne Parkway with signs, flags, music and inflatable costumes on a warm October morning.
They had one goal: admonish President Donald Trump and their frustrations with what protesters saw as the administration’s rollback of rights and policies.
Another “No Kings” protest is planned for March 28 from 9 a.m. to noon. Again, demonstrators will station themselves along John Wayne Parkway and will likely carry similar signs and flags.
It’s one of hundreds of protests scheduled around the country — and the world. At least 60 are planned across Arizona, and three in Pinal County.
National organizers say they hope this third protest will be “the largest nonviolent protest in American history.”
Even in Maricopa, where voters have reliably backed Trump, a large anti-Trump protest is possible.
That second “No Kings” protest in October saw attendance double from an earlier one in June. With tensions rising over national and county immigration enforcement — and after hundreds of students participated in walkouts earlier this year — that number could grow.
That same morning, the City of Maricopa Republican Club will host Pinal County Attorney Brad Miller and Constable Bill Griffin for a Q&A forum with local conservatives.
