ORIGINAL STORY 2:30 p.m. A pedestrian-involved crash on the east side of Maricopa sent one person to the hospital this afternoon.
At 1:45 p.m. today, Maricopa police, fire and medical crews were dispatched to Hartman and Honeycutt Roads in response to a reported crash involving a pedestrian, according to dispatch logs.
Reporters at the scene observed an ambulance leaving around 2:15 p.m. Dispatch logs indicated it was headed to an area hospital.
The crash left one eastbound lane of Honeycutt Road partially blocked by a light-colored Chevrolet sedan with minor front-end damage. The scene was cleared by 2:30 p.m.
Maricopa’s public safety spokesperson did not immediately respond to questions about the crash or the pedestrian’s condition.
The incident came shortly after renewed local attention on pedestrian safety following a TikTok showing a man walking along State Route 347 toward Maricopa and appearing exhausted before a driver stopped to help him.
It also followed Tuesday night’s Maricopa City Council discussion on pedestrian safety, which lasted about 45 minutes and was prompted by a recent string of pedestrian and bicycle crashes, including a fatal crash that killed 24-year-old Madison Paige Coughlin on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.

The biggest risk for pedestrians, cyclist & vehicle drivers in Maricopa, is the number of poor drivers. I have been driving for over 60 years and in that time I have been involved in three collisions: 2 of them in Maricopa in the last 4 years. The earlier one was a rear-end collision by a female on her cell phone. The latest one was in January where I was rear-ended by a young man who was “rushing so he wouldn’t be late for class”. In the case my 9-month old pickup was totaled. I see so many stories about accidents in this media, which I conclude, Maricopa’s streets are not safe due to lousy drivers & poor police enforcement.
I have been a daily bike rider in Maricopa for the last 3+ years. The traffic had increased so much since 2022. Too many hassled parents speeding to get their kid(s) to the charter school. There are so many drivers that run thru stop signs. Especially the Stop sign at the Circle K on Porter and Honeycutt. I most often have to raise my hand to alert them to Stop when I’m half way coming alongside the exit. They just ZIP right onto Porter without stopping. And there are so many places where the bike lane just suddenly ends, with absolutely no way to access the sidewalk at that precise spot. It’s very unsettling to ride this year. I either go out at 6 am before most drivers are on the roads, or after 8 am when most roads are fairly empty of drivers. The school kids riding scooters are another issue. They do not stop to look at the intersection, or driveways, they just speed along. I don’t want any students hurt/killed by an unthinking driver. Please, Maricopa drivers, slow down! Your car is much bigger and more deadly to an unprotected bicyclist or scooter rider. Stop at the designated Stop sign. Look both ways before you dart out of the parking lot. You’re not the only one who wants to go home alive. You’re not the only one who doesn’t want to get rear-ended. Please be courteous.
