A woman was captured on home security video in what looks to be a brazen daytime porch pirate theft. The unidentified woman was spotted swiping packages from a house in the Amarillo Creek neighborhood around 3 p.m. yesterday afternoon, according to a timestamp on security footage shared to social media.
The package grab happened in just 30 seconds. In that time, the alleged thief was recorded by two cameras on Mellen Lane.
The security camera video, posted on a Maricopa Facebook page, shows a woman in a green jacket, jeans and a Chevrolet baseball cap walking from a U-Haul truck to a residential front porch. She picks up two white packages, likely Amazon packaging, before quickly running back to the U-Haul. She climbs in and an unseen driver quickly leaves the scene.
A doorbell camera gives a clear view of the woman’s face, despite her attempts to shield her face with a green sleeve. Several internet sleuths captured the woman’s face and made sure to post it for all to see.
Besides the two apparent accomplices, no one else is seen in the video. The neighborhood itself seems empty, with homes across the street still under construction.
“I’m in Amarillo Creek and our packages take forever to get to us,” said Chinera Adams on nearby Coe Street, where the neighborhood saw its first homes completed in the fall of 2023. “For someone to just steal them is just pitiful.”
Community members came together in their righteous outrage. Some suggested that the truck may be traceable by rental records or visible identification numbers. A local U-Haul employee weighed in, asking for an identification number on the side of the box truck.
Others suggested coordinating with local police departments’ many Flock cameras.
Because Amarillo Creek lies just south of city limits on Papago Road, the Maricopa Police Department doesn’t have jurisdiction. While the homeowner says she contacted law enforcement, a Pinal County Sheriff’s Department told InMaricopa they weren’t immediately aware of an active theft case like this.
