UPDATE 5:06 p.m. June 3, 2025 The roadway is clear, an MPD spokesperson confirmed.

ORIGINAL STORY 3:59 p.m. June 3, 2025 A two-vehicle crash this afternoon disrupted traffic along Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway near Shea Way after one driver reportedly ran a red light.

The collision occurred just after 3 p.m., according to Monica Williams, spokesperson for the Maricopa Police Department. “One vehicle is reported to have run a red light, colliding with another vehicle,” she said.

Both cars sustained significant front-end damage, with one vehicle coming to rest atop a flattened turn-lane signpost. Airbags deployed, and the crash snarled traffic in both directions, blocking the center median and turn lane.

Medical personnel from the Maricopa Fire and Medical Department evaluated both drivers at the scene. There were no immediate patients, Williams said, though it remains unclear whether either driver was later transported to the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation. Last Friday, another crash reportedly caused by a red-light runner sent both drivers to the hospital.
