Serial bad driver drunkenly crashes through fence in front of sheriff’s office: cops

[Brian Petersheim Jr., Monica D. Spencer]

Maricopa Police Department is investigating a weekend drunk-driving crash that ended in an arrest.

The wreck happened in front of the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office on Wilson Avenue in the Heritage District at 2:45 p.m.

Witnesses said they saw Cody Fowler, 25, slumped over in his moving car, with his head down and hands off the steering wheel. Fowler’s car smashed through a fence before stopping in a ditch. The witness told the authorities that Fowler fled from the crash site.

According to police records, when officers arrived, Fowler was walking down the road, away from the crash. The officers reported finding an empty vodka bottle and THC vape cartridges in his possession. They said they could smell “a faint odor of intoxicating liquors” emanating from Fowler.

Fowler was arrested and charged with aggravated DUI and leaving the scene of a collision. If convicted, he will face up to four months in jail and a $4,000 fine.

According to court records, this is Fowler’s 16th arrest in Arizona since 2020. Almost every conviction is related to driving issues.
