(First InMaricopa) A shooting occurred yesterday evening at the entrance to The Lakes at Rancho El Dorado, the Maricopa Police Department confirmed to InMaricopa. This marks the sixth shooting in May.
Shots were fired at 7:20 p.m. at the intersection of Chase Drive and Smith-Enke Road. Police say it may have stemmed from a road-rage altercation that unfolded through the western portion of The Lakes and ended in gunfire near the subdivision entrance.
The vehicles involved were described as a dark-colored sedan and possibly a silver or grey sedan, according to MPD. Investigators are urging residents to review their home security footage and report any suspicious activity.
“We’re investigating. Anyone with camera video or information is asked to contact us. No one was injured,” an MPD spokesperson told InMaricopa.
While The Lakes has not been a hotspot in the city’s recent uptick in shootings — InMaricopa has reported 12 of them since March 18 — the incident adds to a growing list of gunfire reports across Maricopa, concentrated south of the John Wayne Parkway strip and on the city’s East Side, according to a recent InMaricopa analysis of 10 previous shootings. The 11th shooting, a murder, occurred in Glendale but the alleged killer was arrested at a home in Maricopa’s Glennwilde neighborhood. That murder also occurred in May.
Maricopa Police Chief Mark Goodman wrote an op-ed addressing the violence, pleading for peaceful resolutions to what seems to be a universal motive in these shootings: personal disputes. InMaricopa published the op-ed May 16.
Police are continuing to investigate last night’s shooting and ask that community members remain alert and share any footage or information that may assist in identifying those involved.
