UPDATE: 6:40 P.M.:
The SWAT unit has the suspect in custody after they raided his Morning View Lane home following a six-hour-long standoff in which the suspect refused to leave.
The suspect was brought out of the home without incident.
Some neighbors were asking when they could return home. The home is taped off as a crime scene.
The crime scene unit is now at the scene to investigate.
UPDATE: 6:35 P.M.:
The SWAT unit, accompanied by a police dog, raids the home on Mountain View Lane where a wanted man has been holed up for nearly six hours today.
A robot was deployed to enter the home prior to the raid of cops with rifles drawn.
UPDATE: 6:10 p.m. Sept. 3:
The suspect wanted on a warrant who refuses to leave a home on Morning View Lane may be armed but that is not confirmed with police at the scene.
The suspect was called out again after several attempts.
“We have a warrant for the house. Please come out now,” an officer told the suspect on a loudspeaker. “We don’t know what’s going on in your mind right now, but we need to talk about it.”
Two police cars were parked south of the home on Rainbow Drive, adding to the police presence there.
A Maricopa police drone was deployed over the area and could give cops a better view of the home’s inside.
Several windows on the bottom floor exterior are broken out. One top floor window was shot out with a teargas cannister.
About a dozen neighbors were standing near the scene, watching the drama unfold.
UPDATE: 6 p.m. Sept. 3:
More shots were fired and several windows on the home’s east side are shot out with tear gas cannisters. The apprehension of a wanted man who refuses to leave a home on Morning View Lane in The Meadows may be imminent.
UPDATE: 5:15 p.m.:
Police have again used a loudspeaker telling the suspect inside the Meadows home that they have a warrant for his arrest and he should come out of the home on Morning View Lane.
Two windows have been broken out on the first floor, possibly to deploy more teargas.
UPDATE: 5 P.M.: Sept. 3:
A previous report of a child in the home is incorrect.
UPDATE: 4:45 p.m. Sept. 3:
InMaricopa reporter Monica Spencer, who is on the scene, said police were poised to shoot out all the windows in the home’s top floor to shoot in more tear gas. Police have broken another window as well downstairs.
UPDATE: 4:35 p.m. Sept. 3:
The suspect in a standoff this afternoon with Maricopa police and a SWAT unit is believed to be holed up in the attic of a Meadows home in the 45000 block of Morning View Lane, police on the scene said.
The SWAT unit on the scene used a battering ram to break a front window before tear gas was deployed.
Police are using a loudspeaker to talk to the suspect wanted on a warrant. He remains incommunicado with cops who opened the front door to the house so the suspect could surrender on his own volition.
The suspect has not communicated with police and it is unknown if he is armed.
Only a dog has come out of the house after smoke and gas billowed from the house.
——————————————
A Maricopa Meadows man wanted on an arrest warrant remains in a standoff with Maricopa police and a Casa Grande police SWAT team, which has been ongoing for three hours this afternoon.
Police shot what was believed to be tear gas into the house and a gunshot was fired at around 3:45 p.m., but little else was known about the confrontation in the 45000 block of Morning View Lane.
MPD spokesperson Monica Williams said people should avoid the area.
Maricopa Wells Middle School, the nearest school to the scene, was not letting children out of class while the standoff was underway, a parent said.
Neighbors said suspicious activity was taking place at the home in recent months.
Up to four Maricopa Police Department squad cars are on the scene along with the two SWAT units from Maricopa and Casa Grande.
This is a breaking story. More information will be released as it is gathered. An InMaricopa reporter is on the scene.
