(First InMaricopa) A man was killed and a woman injured last week after an SUV left the roadway and struck them along State Route 84 near Stanfield, according to the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office.

PCSO spokesperson Sam Salzwedel said deputies were called around 7 p.m. Jan. 27 to a crash on SR 84 west of Stanfield Road.
Investigators said a man and woman had parked their vehicle off to the side of the highway and were standing outside when an SUV traveling westbound left the roadway and hit them.
Juan Martinez Limon, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was transported to a hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries, Salzwedel said. The SUV’s driver was also taken to a hospital.
“The case is under investigation and impairment may be a contributing factor that resulted in the collision,” Salzwedel told InMaricopa.
The Pinal County Medical Examiner’s Office said Limon died from multiple blunt force trauma. Readers who contacted InMaricopa said Limon was a Stanfield resident.
Several motorists traveling through the area around 11 p.m. reported seeing police lights and wreckage near the Family Dollar along SR 84 close to Albany Way. Some captured cellphone video of the scene as authorities remained on site.
Stanfield resident Sofia Cota, who lives near the crash site, said the event shook the community because the victims were known locally.
“A couple got ran over,” Cota said.

Dangerous stretch south of Maricopa
The fatal crash occurred near the same stretch of roadway where another serious collision was reported in November.

On Nov. 14, Jonathan Cantu was critically injured in a T-bone crash in Stanfield when another driver collided with his vehicle as he was traveling to work. Cantu, a father of three, suffered life-threatening injuries and remains hospitalized, according to updates shared by his family.
In a recent post, Cantu’s mother, Sonia Lara, said her son has undergone multiple surgeries, including a procedure to repair facial and jaw fractures. She said he is breathing on his own, though a tracheotomy remains in place as a precaution, and has shown limited movement but is not yet following commands.
A GoFundMe campaign organized for Cantu’s medical expenses had raised $4,259 of a $5,000 goal as of this afternoon.
Authorities said the Jan. 27 crash remains under investigation.

This part of 84 is a dangerous one. People like to fly thourgh here and there are no Highway Partol or Sheriff around. The semi trucks from the local dairy ( some at all) also don’t slow down when in the 45 mile speed limit zone.
