A 32-year-old man nicknamed Stewie Griffin was arrested Tuesday, nearly two months after he was accused of abandoning a stolen car and meth at a local Circle K.

Maricopa Police Department on Dec. 19 first received an alert from a Flock license plate-reading camera that a stolen vehicle was in the city, according to a probable cause statement obtained by InMaricopa.

Two hours later, officers found the vehicle at a local Circle K before the male driver and female passenger ran away, and only the passenger was found. Police did not release the identity of the woman, or at which Circle K location this incident occurred.

The passenger told police that the driver’s nickname “is Stewie Griffin because he looks like him and has a large head,” according to the report. “Looking at surveillance footage the driver was identified as Vernon Trejo based on his physical characteristics, and due to the hairstyle and large shape of Vernon’s head.”

When police searched the vehicle, they found over 30 grams of methamphetamine, hypodermic needles containing meth, drug paraphernalia, mail addressed to Trejo and multiple stolen batteries and cordless tools, according to the report.

Vernon was never found, until police tracked his phone, which pinged at Vee Quiva Casino on Tuesday. Officers reported finding him there with 3.1 grams of meth on his person.

He was arrested on felony charges of vehicle theft, possessing dangerous drugs for sale and drug paraphernalia, one misdemeanor charge of theft. He was also booked on parole violation and drug warrants. He faces over 41 years in prison.
