(First InMaricopa) Police are investigating a shooting this morning that left one person hospitalized.
Officers were called at 1:14 a.m. to a Homestead address on West Thornberry Lane for a possible shooting, authorities told InMaricopa. When officers arrived, they found an individual shot in the leg.
That unnamed injured person was taken to a hospital and was awaiting surgery as of this morning, according to a Maricopa Police Department spokesperson.
Investigators said the person was shot after being confronted by a resident and a family member who discovered knife damage on two of their vehicles. The injured person reportedly advanced toward the homeowner while holding a knife, which led to the shooting.
Officers later found more cars in the area with similar knife damage, police said.
That shooter, who has not been named, is not being charged with a crime, as it appears he was acting in self-defense. The shot person is facing charges. The investigation remains ongoing, say police.
