Maricopa Police Department shut down the Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway tonight for a shooting that left two adults injured, one seriously.
Police were dispatched just after 7 p.m. to the area of the highway and Russell Road. There, officers found two adults inside a single vehicle suffering from gunshot-related wounds.
One person had only minor injuries but the second was taken to a hospital with “more serious injuries,” according to MPD spokesperson Monica Wiliams. Neither victim’s conditions were immediately released.
Early investigation shows that the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident involving two vehicles, police said.
As of 9:15 p.m., the Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway was closed in both directions between Russell and Anderson Roads. Police said updates on the road closure would be posted on the Maricopa Police Department’s Facebook page.
On just the third day of the year, this is already the second reported shooting in Maricopa in 2026.
