Video captures rollover crash at Wild Horse Pass, online debate follows

Dashcam footage shows the flip as viewers argue who had the right of way

A violent rollover crash caught on dashcam this month at Wild Horse Pass Boulevard and South Maricopa Road is sparking debate online over who had the right of way.

The collision occurred at 4:20 p.m. on Feb. 3, according to the timestamp visible in video shared by Maricopa resident Chuck Green.

The footage appears to show a Jeep traveling straight through the intersection collide with a pickup truck turning left across its path. The turning vehicle flips onto its side and skids across the roadway as debris scatters into multiple lanes.

Several vehicles stop shortly after the impact. In still photos Green shared in a Maricopa Facebook group, drivers are later seen getting out to help.

The intersection sits 1¾ miles north of State Route 347 along a busy commuter corridor linking Maricopa to Interstate 10.

The video does not clearly show the signal phase facing either driver at the moment they entered the intersection. While traffic lights are visible in the distance, the footage does not definitively establish whether either vehicle entered on a green, yellow or red signal.

That uncertainty quickly fueled debate in the Facebook comment section where the clip was shared.

Some commenters said both drivers appeared to run a red light.

Others argued Arizona law requires a driver turning left to yield to oncoming traffic unless a protected green arrow is displayed.

Several viewers questioned whether the straight-traveling driver had sufficient time to stop.

InMaricopa contacted the Gila River Police Department for information about the crash. Spokesperson Teaya Enos said she is working to determine whether either driver was cited and the extent of any injuries. Law enforcement officers do not determine fault in car accidents.
