Nicolas Yendrzeski, believed to be the youngest school board candidate in Maricopa Unified School District history, has pulled ahead of Shawnte’ Rothschild for one of three seats on the district’s governing board.

Yendreski, 18, who graduated from Maricopa High School in June, pushed ahead of Rothschild by a 62-vote margin, 8,114 votes to 8,052, following the latest Pinal County ballot drop at 8:30 this morning.

Contacted this morning, Yendrzeski told InMaricopa he was just waiting patiently for more results to come at noon, which could seal his win.

“I’m still waiting … I’m pretty confident,” he said. “I think the only thing people can do is wait patiently for the final tally.”

Pinal County Elections officials said the next vote drop would take place around 12 p.m. today, which could decide the close race that Rothschild was winning on Election Day.

“Additional results will be released periodically,” the elections division stated on its website.

Rothschild was barely leading Yendrzeski by just 20 votes last night.

She had 7,699 votes, or 20.88%. Yendrzeski was trailing with 7,679 votes, or 20.83%.
