A rollover crash left a black Toyota Corolla resting on its passenger side along Maricopa’s main strip near Edison Road around noon today, shutting down two lanes of John Wayne Parkway in a 35-mph stretch.
The single-vehicle crash came to rest beside the median’s gabions, or “caged rocks,” a long-running point of frustration for local drivers, and quickly drew attention for how unusual it appeared.
“Looks like the rocks win again,” said Debra Richmond, reacting to photos from the scene.
Others questioned how a car could flip under those conditions. “Something funky must’ve happened to flip a Corolla,” said Danny Puzzo, while multiple residents asked: “How is this possible?”
Maricopa Police Department spokesperson Monica Williams said the roadway cleared shortly before 1 p.m. Two occupants were involved and both were transported to a hospital for further evaluation after getting themselves out of the vehicle before officers arrived.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Can we all agree once and for all that Maricopans keep running red lights all over the city?
This happens all over the place. People no longer slow down on yellow, and stop on red. Not at all.
Arizona has some of the worst drivers in the country!
I would 100% support red light cameras and speed cameras in Maricopa and Pinal County.
