The tried-and-true dinner and a movie formula for dating is always a classic stand-by. But nobody ever said it had to be a fancy dinner.
In a recent survey of 3,000 men from across the country, some 54% of Arizona men chose Chick-fil-A as their go-to for a budget-friendly first date, according to the Gainsville, Fla.-based modern romance clearinghouse DatingNews.com. That number was closely followed by McDonald’s in second and Dairy Queen in third.
And while Maricopa has yet to get its own Chick-fil-A — yes, we know you all want one — it looks like some Maricopa men may opt to feed their date a Big Mac or Blizzard instead of steak and wine.
Maricopa McDonald’s Manager Donald Dean said he has accommodated dinner dates under the golden arches at 20700 N. John Wayne Parkway.
“I was surprised during homecoming how many people came in with their dates,” he told InMaricopa. “They came in with the nice dresses and all. It was kind of cute.”
And don’t worry about getting turned down, lads, because it looks like most women — roughly two-thirds — would say yes to a fast-food first date. About 41% said they were OK with it as the date was fun and 40% said they would appreciate their date’s honesty about their budget.
Other budget-friendly first-date options? Coffee shops, a movie at home and dining at a food truck were popular options for roughly one-quarter of participants each, while 12% said they’d opt for a dollar-menu picnic.

![Global Water Resources told customers in a Friday letter its proposed Maricopa rate hike has been reduced to about 7%, with any new rates unlikely to take effect before 2027. [InMaricopa file]](https://inmaricopa.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Global-Water-180622-_RMC1562-300x200.jpg)
